However recently (perhaps since I downloaded the V23 demo?) the system constantly crashes and closes everytime I try and do anything in the "no. of flutes" data entry box. SO I am trying to switch to using the tool library which is not looking too user friendly - Is there any way for the tool description to show up in the selection screen. It's not much use when everything is just labelled "endmill rough". I'd like to be able to call a tool 8mm endmill 2 flute or something like that so that when I see it listed I know exactly what it is. | Answer |

| 2009-01-05 16:57 Terry Evans | V23 Mill: Ok here it is--I am trying to use the 4th axis wrap milling application. i have a sleeve in the 4th axis and i am trying to cut a circle or groove on very top and follow the diameter with the tool. It is actually cutting a ring-groove at A0. and A180.--2 grooves--top and bottom of part. So a would probably end up at around a36. and a-36. to correctly cut the diameter. Then the same on other side just plus 180. to either side. So how do I draw the geometry correctly to make it understand the tool path. This is on a vertical mill.. | Answer |

| 2009-01-16 17:07 jason seaman | BobCAD Version 22: Hi, my software will not open. I have tried to completly remove it and reinstall it, but it still won't open. It gives me an error message. When I click to see the data in the error report this is what it says. Error signature: AppName:bobcad.exe AppVer:22.0.7.3 ModName: common0004r.dll ModVer: 0.0.0.0 Offset: 0000296a. | 2009-02-04 10:21 Bob Colletti | BobCAD Version 22: Post Processor - My controller is a Dynapath Delta 40M/50M/60M. The post processor I have been using is "Dynapath.MillPst", which is no longer listed on the website and I have modified to work with my machine. There are a few things that happen and I don't know how to fix. For example when I perform a pocket in multiple steps the cutter will rapid to the depth then go back up to zero and come back down to the depth at the feed rate I put in. Not a big problem on a shallow pocket but when the pocket is a few inches deep it wastes a lot of time. Is this the correct post processor for my machine or is there a different post which will work properly. I have gone through the list of post processors and can't seem to find one that works as good as the one I am using. | Answer |

| 2009-03-10 21:31 Brian Huppi | BobCAD Version 22: I thought there was already a thread containing this topic, but I can't find it... I am cutting a cavity with islands on the bottom, and Z-Level Roughing always stops one pass short of the bottom of the cavity. Even if I play around with the cut depth it always stops one pass short. Why is this? I then try a Z-level Finish and the toolpath will finish the vertical sides but will not finish the bottom. I watched the training video for Z-Level Finish last night, and it says something to the effect that, "... because this is a finish operation, it doesn't cut the flat parts..." Why? This is maddening! This is how the 2D pocket operation works, only finishing the sides and not the bottom ( I would like this to also make a finish cut on the bottom...), but I expect Z-Level Finish to do it all... In Bobcad V23 & V22 the system only gives a rough option for the tool in the engrave feature. I would have thought that engraving would default to a V shaped tool rather than a rough endmill. | 2009-04-19 17:14 Dr Mark Vaughan | V23 Mill: I am a new user having recently purchased bobcad23 with mill, lathe and art options. Failure of my old laptop has forced me to move up to MS Vista. I have prefomed all the recommended mods to run on vista in teh compatability option (a menu under program properties with this version of vista rather than a wizard as your online instructions suggest). Most of it seems to work fine, however I cannot use the help menu's. The menu on the main program comes up, and you can go to help topics. If you click teh index tab you can look at the index list, but as soon as you click to display it all stops responding. Other help areas, for instance the button in tool editing does nothing. Being a new user the ability to use the help system would be most helpful. Have you any solutions please. | Answer |

| 2009-04-29 20:52 Michael Grace | BobCAD Version 21 : WE are cutting a profile in wood with a router. it measures 445mm in the x axis and 460mm in the y axis. it has some fillets on the corners that meet curved sides. When we machine the part we get 458mm (12 to 13 mm larger than the design) in the x axis and the correct 460mm in the y axis. The drawing measures correctly in Bob cad. The tool path g-code seems to be in the correct place when I preview the tool path with the cursor. I use the verify to verify the x -y boundary and it looks right. Any Idea why I could have an error only in the x axis? Is there a setting in the profile set up boxes that I am getting wrong? Although the g-code seems right. I'm boggled | Answer |

With dongle and a non-priveleged user only runs in demo. Assume this means your product requires administrative rights? Is there another alternative like opening permissions to something. My question is, when I open a solid part file, how do I look at and retrieve dimensions from it? Everyone sends solid part files to us and we're at a loss to even quote them because we can't tell anything specific about the part. | 2009-06-02 17:35 Michael Marino | BobCAD Version 21 : Problem with Boolean functions and at times a few others processes. Will not properly perform a Boolean function after having done five right in a row with saving between and the image becomes difficult to do other work with (will get error messages when just before was doing fine). The form is a Chromatic harmonica comb so while not huge number of layers there is a problem of a good number of surfaces in a small area and using boolean to create the wells for the reeds in the comb. This has cost me time which is money (a rather large amount of it) and I would like to either get a patch to have it working properly or help to get it do to what it should be doing. I was and to a good degree still am very interested in V23 BUT I REQUIRE programs that function as stated. On another note even with engaging G21 on generation of G-code for Mach3 I get the program shifting over into Imperial units. Have called on this and was told to use the G21 code unit to better define the environment. No joy on that front either (having been going in and editing the code to deal with that). Please, send a response and possible fix asap as I have a show this weekend and this project has run into too many snags. Also when setting up the milling to go uni- directional in V21 it is plunging back to the depth for the next cut in route instead of staying at safe hight from the work. This cost material and time to learn as it did not show up on either your or Mach3's simulator systems. Thank you for your time, sorry for being curt but this is getting costly. Michael | Answer |

This is quite frustrating as I don't have any idea what to correct. I built a simple model using primatives. The tool path function works fine in this. Steps I took: 1. Start in BobArt 2. Edit Stock X=7 Y=3 Z=-.05 3. Emboss from image, set to add, Zdepth .03 4. Goto CAM 5. Add Z-Level Rough 6. Select yellow stock from BobArt 7. Set tool diameter to .125 and Flute length to .5 8. Looked on this help site, and ohters with Preditor Simulation issues, tried running the *.msi file for 2007 Simulation and when I did, I receive registration error messages. Very confusing and frustrating. Operating System: Windows Vista 32 BobCad-Mill V23 License: USB Dongle PC: HP Workstation 8710W. One recurring problem is working with the DXF files they have, which come from a library they got with the package. (From read only CD’s) when I open them in BobCAD (v21) there are “extra” layers of entities included. Sometimes they stack right on top of each other; other times they make an offset of the existing geometry, so each feature has 2 parallel lines. Another quirk is that there are some entities / geometry that do not show up; there are some features that should be closed shapes that show as being open. Last night I opened a file in v21 and the upper portion of a closed geometry did not show up. This morning I opened the same file in a demo version of v23 and the lower portion of the same geometry did not show up. When I open the same file in AutoCAD, it appears correctly; single layer of entities; no offsets, and all of the geometry is there. Any help you could provide would be greatly appreciated.
